Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its ally Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) held a consultative meeting on Tuesday to review the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) following the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in the province, and discussed the proposed Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms (PCER).

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened the meeting. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari attended with a delegation comprising Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, Senator Sherry Rehman and Raja Pervez Ashraf. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti also attended. Governor Kundi briefed the prime minister on the latest situation in the province, particularly administrative measures and the issue of terrorism.

The proposed Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms also came under discussion. The prime minister expressed the desire that the committee be constituted without further delay, and Bilawal informed him that the PPP would soon submit the names of its nominees to National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the committee.

Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also held a meeting with Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss the overall situation in the country, according to a source in the Prime Minister’s Office quoted by Dawn.

The consultations come after the federal government imposed emergency and governor’s rule in KP on 11 October 2026.
