The grouped table above is a summary; the calculator applies these exact ranges.

Worked example

Listening 30 correct gives band 7.0. Reading Academic 27 correct gives band 6.5. With Writing 6.5 and Speaking 7.0, the average is (7.0 + 6.5 + 6.5 + 7.0) / 4 = 6.75. Under the official rounding rule, 6.75 rounds up to the next whole band, so the estimated overall band is 7.0.

How rounding works

Add the four section bands and divide by four. Then round to the nearest half band: a fraction ending in .25 rounds up to the next half band, and a fraction ending in .75 rounds up to the next whole band. For example, 6.25 becomes 6.5, and 6.75 becomes 7.0.

Frequently asked questions

Is this my official IELTS score?

No. This is an estimate based on published conversion tables. Your official score is the one issued for your test.

Why do Academic and General Training Reading differ?

The two Reading tests use different passages, so the same number of correct answers does not always give the same band. Choose the module you took, or plan to take.

What if my Writing or Speaking score is not a half band?

IELTS section bands are reported in whole and half bands, so choose the closest estimate from the list. The overall result still follows the same averaging and rounding rule.

Can the result change on the real test?

Yes. Boundaries can shift slightly between test versions, and Writing and Speaking are marked by examiners, so treat every result here as an estimate.
